As 2018 winds down let's look back on our favorite shows of the year. Again doesn't have to be top 10, 5 whatever
# 7- Havok March 9th- Havok always have killed when I see them and this night was no expection. The set was a bit short for my taste (only 12 songs) but at least they gave it their all in that time span
# 6- Alice in Chains September 13th AND October 18th- First time seeing them and they were awesome, so much so that I went down to Colorado Springs to see them again
# 5- Sleep June 11th- Finally got to see the Stoner Metal Gods and did not let me down (didn't make a review)
# 4- Slayer, Lamb of God, Anthrax, Testament, August 18th- Slayer's last show in Colorado. Not their best choice of songs but they did make up for it with a great performance
# 3- Judas Priest April 11th- This show was in support of the newest album Firepower, and both show and album inspired me to dig into JP's back catalog and became more of fan, that is how good the album and the show was
# 2- Ghost November 17th- Ghost in Sin City what more could you ask for
#1- Metallica December 2nd- Traveled to Washington as a birthday present for myself; way supreior to the stadium show I saw last year

Pretty poor year for me numbers wise. I only went to 37 gigs all year, which is really low.
Nevertheless, not sure on order, but my top few:
Judas Priest opening for Ozzy Osbourne @ Altice Arena, Lisbon, Portugal Clawfinger @ Islington Academy, London, England Maiden United @ Royal Theatre Carre, Amsterdam, Holland Iron Maiden @ Manchester Arena, Manchester, England Lucifer @ Boston Music Rooms, London, England Primal Fear @ The Dome, London, England
Top ten would probably be rounded out by Sinsaenum, Operation:Mindcrime, and Demon, all in London, and Kataklysm in Antwerp.

Unless the new album shreds I'm probably gonna use that as my goodbye point to them.

Just looked up my stats on setlist.fm and I've been to 29 shows over the last five years. The last show I was at this year was ZZ Top back in August.

24 shows this year.
Top shows from that: Saxon/Black Star Riders - I'm not even a big Saxon fan, I more went for BSR because I'm a Thin Lizzy fanatic. First time seeing them too, so it was great see Gorham up close.
Satyricon - was on the way home from a business trip in Vegas so instead of flying straight home I decided to land in Denver and catch this show. It's the last Satyricon US tour so it was extra special to me since I saw their first tour as well in 2000. Slept in my car near the airport.
Amorphis/Dark Tranquillity/Moonspell - flew to NYC to see this show and I had to go through ridiculous hoops to get in to the venue. I was so tired I nearly fell asleep as the show went way past midnight but loved every minute.
Goo Goo Dolls - finally they got around to playing some old and never heard stuff. Not as much as I wanted but it's the closest I'm ever gonna get to seeing those songs so I'll take it.
Saw some other out of town shows too this year, but those were the highlights.

9 shows this year, so I might as well just rank all of them. 9.Hedley @ Hershey Centre I'm not really a fan, but they are one of my wife's favorite bands so I took her to see them. About a month before the show, the singer got involved in a big amount of controversy regarding sexual misconduct. My wife was unsure about going after that, but we already had tickets so we just went to the show. The crowd (mostly women) still showed huge support for the band, and my wife had a good time to that's all that matters to me.
8. Dimmu Borgir @ Danforth Music Hall Been a fan for years, but this was my first time seeing them. They were fucking awesome, despite only playing 75 minutes. New songs sounded really good live, and I hope they come back around soon.
7. Watain @ Opera House I mainly went to this show for Revenge, but Watain and Destroyer 666 put on awesome sets as well. Revenge were pure fucking savagery, and they make any bill they are on that much better.
6. Steven Wilson @ Danforth Music Hall I am not a big fan of his latest album, but Steven always puts on an excellent show. Some really great Porcupine Tree songs in the set, and the visuals were excellent. I'll always see him when he comes by.
5. Steven Wilson @ The Studio Basically the same show was the previous on the list, but this was in a much smaller and more intimate venue. Hadn't seen him in such a small setting in awhile.
4. Ghost @ Sony Centre Out of the 8 times I've seen Ghost, this was hands down the best. I loved that this was a 3 hour performance, since they got (almost) every single song I wanted to hear in the set. I hope Ghost never bring opening bands again, they clearly don't need them.
3. Aqua @ Echo Beach I felt like a kid again at this show. Between bands they played 90s music videos and it just felt more like a non-stop party than a concert. Prozzak and Whigfield also brought it big time. The guys in Prozzak are actually trying to make this tour a yearly thing with different 90s bands each year. I hope it happens!
2. Jethro Tull @ Budweiser Stage One of my all time favorite bands. Martin Barre may not be there anymore, Ian Anderson may not be able to sing as great as he used to, but they can put on a show. At 71, Ian's energy is still really high, and the band he was with him is great too. A bit short, at 2 hours and 5 minutes with an intermission, but I guess these guys ain't spring chickens anymore. Just glad to see them still on the road.
1. Phil Collins @ Scotiabank Arena Not only the best show I've seen this year, but one of the best shows I've ever seen period. Yeah, Phil can't play drums anymore, but he can still sing really well. His backing band, with his son on drums, was phenomenal. I really hope he comes around one more time, but I doubt he'll be physically able to. We'll see, apparently he's pondering the idea of getting back with Genesis with his son on drums. I'd see him again in any way I can.

I agree 100% on this. The band works very well in "an evening with" format. I hope they continue this from now on

Let's just hope these lawsuits from the former members don't get too serious and end up with Tobias taking a big financial hit. The evening with might go out the window then.
