How are you effected by this? I have two components of my job. Outdoor work and indoor work. Needless to say I am doing indoor work at the moment.

Is this some other virus that’s going to go ignored while the Coronavirus panic is happening but is actually worse?

Is this some other virus that’s going to go ignored while the Coronavirus panic is happening but is actually worse? No its the same thing, some people just call it the Wuhan flu. Some I haven't heard anyone call it that. It's either called coronavirus or COVID-19. I still have to go into work. There's stuff on site that cannot be done at home. The only things it's changed for me is that I will be outside less and how I do my grocery shopping since stores have changed their hours so they have more time to restock.

Just to give an idea of how quickly this is spreading in the US alone, last night we were up to 9,000 reported cases and now, in less than 24 hours, we're up to 14,000.

Don't forget the rate of spread in the US is misleading, because what you've actually done this week is increase the rate of testing.

I'm in a bit of a wait and see period. I have a degree in school counseling and since I moved to a different state I have to take a test. However all public schools are closed and there is no timetable of when they would reopen. Add in the testing center where I would take the exam is closed because it is considered a gathering of more than 10 people
I live with my dad who is higher risk because of his age and health so we both have not left the house expect for buying food. While I'm not scared of what's happening it is unnerving and a bit creepy to see the streets of major cites empty. And there is no way to predict how long this will last

Chuck Billy from Testament has tested positive for it. As has Gary Holt. :( The drummer from Death Angel is in the hospital too. They all just finished touring Europe and then flew back home to the bay area. Those are two very infected regions right now. It sucks for them but I can't say I'm surprised that they caught it.

I'm working from home. My staff are all working at my warehouse, albeit with locked doors and signs on the door asking customers to call orders in so that we can just bring them out without having them come in. If one of my staff gets this thing, that means I go in with sales guys and run the branch because they'll all have to self-isolate. All this for fucking lawn sprinklers and landscape products. Super essential. I'm essential.

"All around me are familiar faces Worn out places, worn out faces Bright and early for their daily races Going nowhere, going nowhere Their tears are filling up their glasses No expression, no expression Hide my head, I want to drown my sorrow No tomorrow, no tomorrow
And I find it kinda funny, I find it kinda sad The dreams in which I'm dying are the best I've ever had I find it hard to tell you, I find it hard to take When people run in circles it's a very very Mad world, mad world"

Now that vaccines have been announced, will there be concerts next year?
My best guess is that some will take place by the late half of next year.

IF it's an effective vaccine than we could have concerts by that time. But it's going to take a while to roll out enough of it and get it around. I still think 2022 is the soonest we will have concerts that looked anything like they did before the virus. That is of course, IF the vaccine is a universally good one.

I had a dream last night that I was at a concert but everyone was required to wear masks to the show. I was thinking that maybe this could work since people have been going on crowded planes and I've gone into stores with nobody abiding by the 6 feet rule so it isn't a far out idea. I would certainly go to one IMO.

Except the one I went to where the place was so sleazy that you’d be lucky if the only thing you caught was COVID, those yahoo’s were carrying on like normal. That was in November and nobody got sick. With Covid anyway. Pink eye, herpes, and pregnant probably

I would certainly go to one IMO. The problem is that wearing a mask is not the only way to prevent catching it. Even with masks, people packed in close together for a concert is still not a good idea. Too many ways for the disease to spread still. I miss concerts too but I don't plan on going to one for at least another year or more depending on how things go. I know what I have been up to and what I'm doing to stay safe. But I can't trust that anyone at a concert is staying safe themselves. Hasn't the airline industry taken a huge hit during this? So, I don't know how crowded planes are these days. As for the store, at least you can keep it moving while shopping and stay away from people better than you can at a concert.

Yeah, there's no way concerts would be full capacity until the vaccine programme is done. Same for sports. Masks just prevent people coughing/sneezing on each other. They can still transmit it by being close together for a prolonged period, and as sanitarium78 said, it's different to the store because you're not standing still next to someone for more than a couple of minutes.
Seated concerts with everyone spaced out and wearing masks, sure, maybe that could happen. But really, everyone reasonable has given up on concerts until the vaccine is done. The end is round the corner, so why risk it?

Anyone get vaccinated yet? I got an appointment on Friday for the Johnson & Johnson one. My dad has gotten both of his shots and my brother is getting his second one on Saturday. Kind of glad I'm getting the one and done deal and don't have to worry about returning for a second shot.

We're organised here, so I expect to get my first shot in late May.

I was able to sign up for the J&J and am going in for it tomorrow 😭
I wasn't expecting to be able to get one for at least another month or two with how fast they go.

Ontario (and Canada’s) roll out has been ridiculously bad. I expect to get mine in 2027. And that’s not even a joke. They’re just now starting on people 65 and older, after spending the first round on people 80 and older or sending them to third world countries.
So they just put us in a third lockdown instead.

That is slow, but at least it's the right order. We did the same, started with 80+, medical staff, and people with other illnesses, then moved down the age brackets. We're currently somewhere in the low 50s, on average, with a target of the end of July for every adult in the country to have been offered at least the first jab. A first come, first served free-for-all is stupid. Sounds like Canada is very similar to a lot of Europe, who have had supply problems (primarily because they were too slow putting their orders in last year while the US and UK were doing theirs, but they'd rather blame others for not sharing or some shit). Several countries over there have gone into new national lockdowns too, including France and Italy I think.

That’s all fine and dandy but I’m going to be that guy and just say it: they’re vaccinating all the people who barely or straight up don’t leave their homes while the young people who NEED to leave their homes to work and pay bills are left to last, and are in turn the ones still spreading the virus and are getting blamed for doing so. “We’re locking it down again because you didn’t listen” is the message we keep getting.
Sorry, but that’s not right. What is right? I don’t know. What i do know is while a lot of states may be doing it all wrong they seem to be doing a way better job in America. You don’t hear that very often.

You don’t hear that very often. Totally agree about vaccinating the wrong people first. I have brought that up to people numerous times during this that it's the younger people who are out doing things that need to be vaccinated first. We're the ones who are most likely to spread it or catch it. Not some old shut in who barely leaves the house. While most people see my point as valid, they also think that the older people have "paid their dues" and have every right to get vaccinated first. I get why they do older people first though. Their immunity isn't as strong and even a mild case of something can end up killing them. While younger people can fight it off better even though they may end up with lifelong recurring health issues from the disease. My state is moving pretty fast with trying to get everyone vaccinated. At first it was only like 80 and over who could get it back in February. Every couple weeks they would drop the age eligibility down. They dropped it to 30 and up last week which is why I was able to get an appointment. As of this week it's age 16 and up who are eligible. They're moving fast but only allowing people between the ages of 30 and 50 a week to book appointments before dropping the age eligibility down further is probably a little too fast.
